Tourism in Protected Areas: Valbona in Tropoja and the Color Trail in Kukës Among Favorite Destinations

During the summer season, tourist attractions recorded a high number of visitors, both foreign and domestic.
Lefter Gjana, Director of Protected Areas Administration, said Valbona and the “Color Trail” remain the most visited destinations.
He added that the Valbona trail continues to attract many visitors, with 200 to 300 people visiting in a single day. He noted that the “Color Trail” is also one of the most frequented sites within the protected areas network.
According to Gjana, collected data show about a 15 percent increase in tourists compared to last year.
He explained that visitor monitoring gathers information from tourist guides, guesthouses, and on-site observations. This monitoring confirmed the growth in visitor numbers, around 15 percent more than last year.
Gjana also noted that litter left by visitors remains a concern, as many groups do not take their waste with them after guided activities.
He said that this issue persists because several visitor groups leave trash behind during their activities or tours.
Gjana added that promoting these areas, marking the trails, and monitoring them have contributed significantly to the yearly increase in tourist numbers.
