European Heritage Days: Authentic Colors and Sounds in Gjirokastër

Gjirokastër attracts visitors not only for its historical heritage and architecture but also for cultural activities that bring its streets to life.

In the city’s Characteristic Bazaar, the event “Identity That Connects Times” gathered citizens and tourists. The municipality organized the activity as part of the European Heritage Days and the National Cultural Heritage Day.

Students and young people staged a parade combining modern outfits with traditional elements. They also opened an exhibition showcasing their work made from recyclable materials. At another corner of the bazaar, visitors found traditional Gjirokastrian dishes on display.

The event concluded with a concert featuring polyphonic elements performed by children from the Fato Berberi Children’s Cultural Center.

In addition, the International Scientific Conference “Archaeological Excavations in Antigone and Gjirokastër, Heritage Assessment and Opportunities for Cultural Tourism” took place in the city.

Researchers, archaeologists, and specialists in Albanian and Italian cultural monuments participated.

The conference presented the latest archaeological discoveries in the Antigone site and surrounding areas. These findings expand the map of tourist visits in Gjirokastër.
