EBRD Grant Deadline Extended, More Time for Tourism and Infrastructure Projects

TIRANA, Sept 30 – The Albanian government officially approves the extension of a major grant from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The grant supports the Tourism and Infrastructure Enablement Program.
The decision takes effect Monday. It confirms the amended agreement. The extension allows the use of funds over a longer period. The goal is to complete key infrastructure investments that boost tourism development.
An official letter dated April 16, 2025, from EBRD Director for Albania, Ekaterina Solovova, informs Finance Minister Petrit Malaj that the grant’s availability now extends until December 27, 2027.
The Albanian government requested the extension. The move gives more operational time for project implementation. The original grant, approved on November 12, 2020, now gains two additional years to achieve its objectives.
The program, implemented by the Ministry of Finance and Economy and the Albanian Development Fund (FSHZH), aims to improve infrastructure in high-potential tourism areas. It focuses on road upgrades, public services, and facilities that enhance the tourist experience.
The extension ensures successful project execution. It supports the national goal of expanding the tourism sector. EBRD expresses satisfaction with strengthened cooperation with Albanian authorities. The bank highlights the project’s strategic importance.
The program, managed by EBRD with FSHZH, seeks to increase quality and sustainable tourism in the national economy. Investments target four high-potential regions: Berat, Korça, Fier, and Shkodër.
The program aims to improve regional tourism quality. It aims to increase the appeal of cultural, natural, and social assets for visitors. It also promotes sustainable local development through priority infrastructure.
