“La Sylphide” Brings Romantic Ballet Magic to TKOBAP in November

“La Sylphide,” one of the masterpieces of the classical ballet repertoire, will take the stage at TKOBAP on November 3, 4, and 5.

The ballet explores the clash between reality and dreams, the earthly and the spiritual, through the finesse of classical dance.

Set in Scotland in 1836, the story follows James, a young man ready to marry Effie. One night, a forest spirit appears to him—first in a dream, then in reality—captivating him with her beauty.

Torn between earthly love and the supernatural, James follows the sylph into the forest, abandoning Effie. His pursuit of the impossible leads to tragedy. A witch gives James a cursed scarf. When he throws it, the sylph loses her wings and vanishes in his arms. In the end, James is left alone and heartbroken, while Effie marries another.

“La Sylphide” is a romantic classical ballet in two acts. The original choreography premiered in 1832 by Filippo Taglioni and was later adapted in 1836 by August Bournonville.

This timeless work promises a magical blend of beauty, grace, and emotion for audiences in November.
