EU Provides €8 Million Support for Cultural Projects in the Region

The EU presented today in Bylis the winning projects from across the region as part of the Culture and Creativity for the Western Balkans (C4WBs) program. The initiative receives 8 million euros in support from the European Union.
In a public statement, the EU Delegation in Albania highlighted that the projects link culture with skills, the local economy, and cross-border cooperation. It also reminded participants that Albania’s heritage is part of shared European history.
“This day showed that cultural heritage in the Western Balkans is not only for preservation. It also creates opportunities to connect communities and keep places like Bylis in active dialogue with Europe’s present and future,” the statement said.
EU Ambassador Silvio Gonzato explained that the Union works in the cultural sector to protect sites like this archaeological park and living traditions such as Albanian polyphony. He added that these efforts energize communities and open new development opportunities, especially in tourism, while ensuring economic and environmental sustainability.
Ambassador Gonzato stressed that supporting culture helps people understand their European identity—complex yet shared. This understanding breaks down mental and physical barriers between countries and communities. Diversity is the EU’s wealth, and it also unites its members.
