Edi Hila Explores “Broken Horizons” in Artistic Dialogue

visual artist Edi Hila held an evening talk titled “Broken Horizons” on Saturday, sharing insights into his work and vision.
He spoke with Corinne Diserens, an internationally renowned art historian and curator, and Joa Ljungberg, curator at the Malmö Museum of Modern Art in Sweden. Both curators represent museums that will soon host Hila’s exhibitions.
The discussion, moderated by Edi Muka, took place at Vila31 x Art Explora, now transformed into an artist residency. Artists, students, and art enthusiasts filled the venue.
Edi Hila stands among the most significant figures in contemporary art, not only in Albania but across the region. His paintings capture Albania’s transformation and the fragile realities of the modern world.
Born in Shkodër in 1944, Hila lives and works in Tirana. This year, his solo exhibitions will open at the Museum of Art in Hamburg and the Malmö Museum of Modern Art—his first in Germany and Sweden.
Hila began his artistic journey in the 1970s but was forced to abandon painting under the communist regime. He returned to art after the fall of the dictatorship.
Today, his works are part of major museum collections, including the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, Centre Pompidou in Paris, FRAC Pays de la Loire and FRAC Auvergne in France, and the National Gallery of Arts in Tirana.
