Prime Minister Edi Rama announced that Albanians will be able to use digital IDs starting in 2026.
In the fourth episode of season five of the podcast “Flasim,” Rama explained the plan in the segment “Weekly Notes.”
He said that when the previous ID card concession ended, the state took on a major challenge: not a new concession, but creating a state-owned company to produce better and cheaper ID cards.
The company, Identitek, successfully managed the task and now prepares for the digital ID transition. Citizens will be able to use their ID on phones or computers as a multifunctional digital wallet.
Rama added that the EU is moving in the same direction. By 2027, digital IDs will be part of everyday life for all EU citizens.
