International Day for Biosphere Reserves

UNESCO celebrates the International Day for Biosphere Reserves today.
“Every year, environmental issues become more urgent. We have only one planet, and it is at risk,” writes the UN agency for Education, Science, and Culture. They remind us that our relationship with nature and living beings needs a deep review. UNESCO says we must create a truly shared world.
The 2025 theme for the International Day for Biosphere Reserves is “Shaping a Sustainable Future for People and Nature.”
Biosphere reserves show that it is possible to live in this world while building a sustainable and harmonious relationship with nature.
The day calls for truly sustainable development everywhere, with full respect for nature and wildlife.
UNESCO declared this day in 2021 to recognize the importance of ecosystems for biodiversity, sustainable development, and human life. It highlights the value of protected areas and encourages awareness and action to preserve and manage them sustainably.
