Rama: Azoulay brought true love for culture to UNESCO

Prime Minister Edi Rama praised Audrey Azoulay as her mandate as UNESCO Director-General comes to an end.
In a video message, he highlighted her role at the head of the UN agency for education, science, and culture.

Tourism, Culture and Sports Minister Blendi Gonxhja shared the message on social media.
Rama greeted Azoulay during the 43rd General Conference in Samarkand, alongside messages from world leaders and cultural figures.

“Audrey Azoulay was not just another director. She was a leader who brought UNESCO a true love for culture and cultures, beyond borders and above visions,” Rama said.
He added that she led with calm strength. He noted her belief in the power of culture to unite nations and her refusal to fear the ‘superpower of cynicism’ that often shadows the world.

Azoulay served as UNESCO Director-General from 2017 to 2025.
Khaled El-Enany will succeed her after winning majority support in the Executive Board vote.
