Edi Hila Presents First Solo Exhibition in Sweden’s Museum of Modern Art

TIRANA, November 7 – Renowned Albanian painter Edi Hila is holding his first solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in Malmo, Sweden. The show runs from 8 November 2025 to 12 April 2026.

The exhibition brings together around half a century of Hila’s work, exploring Albania’s social transformations after the fall of communism. His paintings, known for their poetic realism, reflect both the country’s past and the uncertainties of change.

Curators Joa Ljungberg and Corinne Diserens said the exhibition examines the contrast between fragility and resilience in human experience.

The artist, born in 1944 in Shkodër, gained international attention at Albania’s first national pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 1997. Since then, his work has been displayed in major European cities, including Vienna, Milan, Warsaw and Paris.

The exhibition is a joint production of the Museum of Modern Art in Malmö and the Hamburger Kunsthalle in Germany. It is accompanied by a multilingual catalogue featuring essays, interviews and a broad selection of sketches and paintings.
