TIRANA, November 11 – On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of central banking in Albania, the Bank of Albania issued a commemorative coin without legal tender titled “100 Years Bank of Albania, 1925-2025.”

The coin highlights the history, significance, and institutional heritage of the Central Bank. It marks a century of economic and financial developments in Albania.

On one side, the coin shows the 100th-anniversary logo of the Bank of Albania. Surrounding the logo are dates that indicate key moments in Albanian central banking history. On the other side, the coin displays two figures. The left side shows the portrait of a boy in traditional attire from Central Albania, featured on the first banknote in 1926. The right side shows the portrait of the poet and patriot Asdreni, featured on the modern 10,000 Lekë banknote.

The Governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko, said at the 100th-anniversary conference that the coin shows respect for the historical memory of the institution. He added that it honors the values the Bank has embodied over the past century. In addition, he said the coin symbolizes independence, stability, and public trust. He also emphasized that the coin serves as inspiration for the future of central banking in Albania.
