Tirana celebrates anniversary of Independence Day

TIRANA, November 28 – Tirana celebrated the 113th anniversary of Albania’s Independence today. The capital was alive in red-and-black. At the same time, cultural and artistic activities took place across several public spaces.

The Independence Day events began at 10:00 a.m. with the Flag Honor Ceremony. Acting mayor Anuela Rishtani attended the event. Meanwhile, citizens from all Albanian-inhabited regions arrived in Tirana. They came to join the celebration on this important day for the Albanian people.

At Skanderbeg Square, crowds filled the space to celebrate the declaration of independence. Children and adults dressed in red-and-black danced to the rhythms of folk music. Their movements created a lively and patriotic spectacle.

Throughout the day, Albanians at home and abroad took part in the celebrations. Looking back, on November 28, 1912, the National Assembly in Vlora, led by Ismail Qemali, declared Albania’s independence. This historic act fulfilled centuries-old aspirations for freedom and a sovereign state.

Moreover, the date has deeper historical meaning. From the raising of Skanderbeg’s flag in Kruja on November 28, 1443, to the signing of the Act of Independence in 1912, the day symbolizes resistance, unity, and national identity. Today, it connects past struggles with present celebrations.
