Spiropali responds to U.S. Secretary of State: Albania and the United States stand together on the altar of democratic values

Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Elisa Spiropali responded to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s Independence Day message.

In a post on X, she emphasized that Albania and the United States stand together on the altar of democratic values.

Spiropali noted that America has always stood by Albania during the most critical moments of its history. Moreover, she highlighted the lasting friendship between the two nations.

“Our founding fathers, to whom we owe our freedom and independence, knew that in decisive hours for the Albanian nation, America stood by our side,” she wrote. “We do not forget—and will never forget—that during the most difficult chapters of our history, including the affirmation of Albania’s right to exist and Kosovo’s independence, the American people played a decisive role.”

She added that, in those moments, the distance between the two nations disappeared and their destinies became inseparably linked.

“This friendship unites us today on the altar of shared values,” Spiropali said. “Our nations are bound by a deep belief in freedom, democracy, peace, security, and human dignity.”

Furthermore, she underlined Albania’s deep appreciation for the United States’ support of its role in NATO. She also mentioned their joint efforts to strengthen law enforcement cooperation and combat cyber threats, as well as to safeguard shared security.

“As we celebrate our Independence Day, with gratitude in our hearts and firm determination, we aim to deepen our strategic cooperation,” she continued. “We seek to expand economic ties and to strengthen the lasting and steadfast friendship between our peoples.”

Finally, Spiropali thanked Secretary Rubio for his warm wishes and for the loyal, enduring partnership between Albania and the United States.
