Rama Outlines New Phase for Environment and Forests

Prime Minister Edi Rama attended a meeting on environmental and forest priorities. He noted that forests face major challenges, especially summer fires causing severe damage.

To address this, Rama highlighted investments in drone-based reforestation. He explained that drones improve precision and efficiency, allowing faster and more effective planting.

Moreover, he stressed the need to expand public nurseries. The government will work with municipalities and the new National Agency for Forests and Protected Areas to create a self-sustaining nursery network.

In addition, a new law requires all builders in Albania to contribute to a green fund supporting reforestation. Rama also emphasized using technology and Artificial Intelligence to boost seedling production.

Rama added that protected areas can support economic growth if managed smartly. He explained that these areas can generate significant revenue and benefit local communities.

Currently, over 1 million hectares, or 22% of Albania, fall under protected areas. However, Rama stressed the need for detailed management to unlock economic potential sustainably, avoiding interventions that could cause harm instead of long-term development.
