PM Rama: Albania Ranked First in the Region for Public Procurement, Progress Recorded in Fighting Corruption

TIRANA, December 11 – Prime Minister Edi Rama stated today that Albania became the leading country in the region for the modernisation and integrity of the public procurement system. Meanwhile, the SIGMA monitoring report ranked the country first in the Western Balkans.

He attended the event “30 Years of Public Procurement – Albania, Regional Leader in the Modernisation of Procurement Systems”, where he noted that the country experienced a fundamental transformation that, in his view, required more communication in an environment influenced by political tension.

According to him, problematic episodes did not show a lack of progress but demonstrated the state’s willingness to fight corruption.

Data from recent years, he said, clearly confirmed this improvement. Earlier today, he explained that new procedures created a visible contrast with those of previous years.

Rama added that this contrast resulted from the work of the Public Procurement Agency and its leadership. In addition, he mentioned the contribution of the Public Procurement Commission, which, in his words, helped strengthen Albania’s regional position.

Albania, he continued, was now considered the country with the best public procurement performance in the region. At the same time, he recalled that the Support for Improvement in Governance and Management (SIGMA) report highlighted Albania’s first place in the Western Balkans with a clear margin, a result he viewed as unthinkable a few years ago.
