Canada and Albania have signed a landmark air transport agreement that, for the first time, allows direct flights between the two countries.

The deal represents a major step forward in strengthening bilateral relations. Moreover, it opens new opportunities for trade, travel, and cultural exchange.

Canadian Minister of Transport and Government House Leader Steven MacKinnon announced the agreement on December 16. During the announcement, he underlined its importance for both nations.

“We are pleased to finalize this new air transport agreement with the Republic of Albania, one of Europe’s fastest-growing economies,” said MacKinnon. “By allowing direct flights, the deal opens new opportunities for our airlines, strengthens people-to-people ties, and improves Canada’s global connectivity.”

Under the new agreement, several airlines may operate regular flights between the two countries. Each side can offer up to 14 passenger flights and 10 cargo flights per week. In addition, airlines will have access to all destinations within both territories.

As a result, travel will become easier and economic cooperation will expand. Albanian businesses will gain better access to the Canadian market. Meanwhile, Canadian companies will discover new opportunities in Southeast Europe.

Furthermore, Canada’s Minister of International Trade, Maninder Sidhu, emphasized the deal’s importance for economic relations.

“The Air Transport Agreement between Canada and Albania marks an important moment in strengthening our relationship,” said Sidhu. “It will improve air connectivity, create new opportunities for tourism, and deepen people-to-people links. It also supports Canada’s trade diversification goals by helping our businesses access a growing market in Southeast Europe. Ultimately, this partnership reflects our ongoing commitment to expanding international trade and building strong, mutually beneficial relationships worldwide.”
