Smart City Project: 5,000 Intelligent Cameras Across 20 Albanian Cities

TIRANA, December 19 – Albania finalized the “Smart City” agreement. Minister of Interior Albana Koçiu announced that authorities will install 5,000 intelligent cameras in 20 cities across the country.
The system will combine security cameras, real-time data analysis, traffic monitoring, patrols, and emergency response. Koçiu said the project will improve safety on streets, in schools, and across public spaces.
She added that Albania will join an elite group of countries using artificial intelligence to enhance public security. “Presight AI systems already operate on four continents, including the UAE, Bahrain, and Jordan,” Koçiu noted.
The cameras will detect speeding drivers, illegal parking, and traffic violations immediately. This system will strengthen prevention and protection for citizens, parents, businesses, police, and emergency services.
Authorities will also equip police uniforms with around 3,000 body cameras to increase transparency. Smart City will deploy intelligent radars and noise sensors on main roads. Koçiu said these tools will help officers identify and respond to risks more efficiently.
The project builds on international best practices. Officials expect up to 30% more crime detection, 45% fewer road fatalities, 30% shorter travel times, 25% lower traffic management costs, and 30% less administrative work for police.
The agreement was signed with Presight AI and its partners. Koçiu said the project will guide Albania toward a safer, more European future.
