Albania’s justice minister after protests: Violence doesn’t sort out any problems

Albanian Justice Minister Toni Gogu has condemned violence following the protests on October 18, saying it solves no problems and only causes more suffering. Gogu said the Ministry of Justice would continue providing legal aid to people in need and keeping essential public services running.
“These are difficult days for Tirana and many Albanian families. The violence has injured people, worried families and left citizens feeling afraid and insecure,” Gogu said.
He wished a speedy recovery to every police officer, protester and citizen who suffered injuries.
“After everything we have witnessed in recent days, it is clear that violence solves no problems. It only brings people more pain,” he said.
As a new week begins, Gogu said the ministry would continue providing legal assistance to those who need it. He also pledged to protect the rights of people in penitentiary institutions and maintain public services.
“During these difficult days, citizens need institutions that stand by them,” he added.
