Heavy Rain Increases River Drin Cascade Flows, PM Rama: Controlled Releases Start from Koman and Vau i Dejës

TIRANA, January 6 – Heavy rain over recent hours raised inflows in the Drin cascade. Authorities released 700 cubic meters per second from the Koman Hydroelectric Power Plant and the Vau i Dejës Hydroelectric Power Plant. Prime Minister Edi Rama said that specialists at the hydroelectric plants monitored and managed the discharges.
He added that Shkodër municipality coordinated with the Albanian Power Corporation to manage the situation and reduce risks. So far, authorities reported no problems.
However, strong winds and rain caused difficulties in Durrës, Lezha, and Fier.
In Malësia e Madhe, high stream inflows isolated the village of Flaka. Meanwhile, the Gjadër River in Vau i Dejës overflowed, raising water levels in the Kapedani neighborhood.
At the same time, authorities reported landslides and falling rocks on several roads in Fushë-Arrëz.
