Begaj hands national flag to Albanian team for 2026 Winter Olympics

President Bajram Begaj presented the national flag to Team Albania, which will represent the country at the 2026 Winter Olympics. The Games will take place from February 6-22 in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.
“Today, you receive a heavy flag. It carries the expectations of the entire nation. The flag asks not for medals, but for dignity. It embodies peace, respect, and pride,” Begaj said. “Show that Albania is strong, worthy, and equal among the best in the world. Go forward with confidence. Compete hard and honorably. The flag is in your hands.”
He praised the athletes for their achievements and dedication. Begaj noted that Albania now stands alongside countries with a long tradition in winter sports.
“You will carry Albania’s ambition to compete with the best. This makes us all proud. The greatness of a nation in sport is measured not by ski slopes or facilities, but by the heart of its athletes,” he said.
The President highlighted the exceptional talent of Lara Colturi and support for athletes Denni Xhepa, Lisa Brunga, and Semire Dauti. He emphasized that Albanian sport has moved beyond symbolic participation.
Begaj addressed the team directly: “Regardless of results, you are winners in the pride of all Albanians. You inspire the younger generation, showing that success comes through discipline, hard work, commitment, and passion.”
He concluded by thanking families, federations, and the Olympic Committee for their support. “Behind you is a whole nation learning to see its flag compete as equals among the best,” he said.
