Rama to The Jerusalem Post: Antisemitism threatens all humanity

Prime Minister Edi Rama warned that antisemitism threatens all humanity.
Speaking in Jerusalem, Rama addressed the “Generation Truth” conference on antisemitism. The event coincided with Holocaust Remembrance Day.
First, Rama cited the Talmud. He said saving one life means saving the whole world.
Then, he stressed that antisemitism is not only hatred of Jews. He said it attacks the moral foundations of humanity. History proves it starts with Jews but never ends with them.
Next, Rama recalled his upbringing in communist Albania. He said the regime promoted hostility toward Israel. However, he added that his grandmother’s Bible shaped his early bond with Jerusalem.
After the Cold War, Albania restored relations with Israel. Since then, cooperation has expanded in the economy, culture, agriculture, technology, and tourism.
Moreover, Rama highlighted Albania’s wartime legacy of “Besa.” He said Albania protected Jews during World War II. As a result, the Jewish population in the country increased. Albania later submitted over 3,700 names of rescued Jews to Yad Vashem.
Rama also warned that antisemitism often hides behind political language. He said hatred begins with words, then grows through indifference.
Regarding current conflicts, Rama condemned terrorism. He said the October 7 attack was mass murder, not resistance. At the same time, he acknowledged the real suffering of Palestinians in Gaza.
Finally, Rama said Israel feels Albania’s support in practice. He noted that Jewish tourists feel safe in Albania.
In conclusion, Rama delivered a clear message: tolerate antisemitism, and the threat will spread to everyone.
