Students Bring Iconic Albanian Art to Life in Celebration of the Year of the Albanian Language

In honor of the “Year of the Albanian Language,” Minister of Education and Sports, Ogerta Manastirliu, announced that students from the “Rilindja” /Renaissance/ 9-year school in Kavaja had recreated one of painter Safo Marko’s iconic works. The painting “The Awakening”, created by Marko in 1978 and part of the National Gallery of Arts’ collection, was brought to life by students Sabina Kapidani, Sidrit Barameta, Mejrem Mulla-Aliu, Izabel Murati, and Henri Mulla-Aliu. Their work won the National Albanian Language Competition, held as part of the Year of the Albanian Language celebrations.
Minister Manastirliu emphasized that, during the Year of the Albanian Language and the 80th Anniversary of Albania’s Liberation, students across the country are breathing new life into iconic Albanian art. These works celebrate cultural figures, historical personalities, and pivotal moments from Albania’s past, bringing attention to events and individuals who have significantly influenced the nation’s history and identity.
The Ministry of Education and Sports also announced a series of national and international activities for the Year of the Albanian Language, involving schools both within the country and in the Diaspora. These activities will culminate on November 22, National Albanian Alphabet Day.
