UNICEF supports municipal social services to boost child welfare

UNICEF Representative in Albania, Murat Sahin, emphasized the role of local government in promoting social protection. He also stressed its importance in fighting social exclusion at the event “Social Fund 2026 – Guaranteeing the Sustainability of Citizen Welfare Services.”
During the event, organizers launched 14 new social services. These services support children and mothers in need, people with disabilities, the elderly, women and girls who face violence, and children without parental care.
Sahin highlighted the 2026–2030 strategy, which focuses on individual care through Youth Guarantee centers, a key part of UNICEF programs. Furthermore, he explained that UNICEF continues to support municipalities through innovative systems and Social Fund financing. This ensures quality services for children and families.
“We have a 2026–2030 strategy focused on Youth Guarantee centers. UNICEF helps municipalities serve children and provide innovative services funded by the Social Fund. Moreover, Albania leads the region in child protection. Countries from Turkey and across the region watch our work. Our goal is to leave no child behind and deliver services for children and families,” Sahin said.
He also noted that last week, Albania hosted a meeting with representatives from Italy and other European countries. This event supports Albania’s EU accession process.
Sahin stressed that meeting the needs of children and families must remain a priority, especially given the growing demand for social services.
“Last week we met with Italy and other European countries because these steps are essential. Meanwhile, Albania continues its path toward EU membership. We must address the needs of children and families. At the same time, we aim to build a renewed Albania that protects and promotes the well-being of every child,” he added.
