Defense minister Vengu before NATO summit: Albania makes concrete security investments

TIRANA, February 12 – Defense ministers of NATO member states are meeting Brussels today. The meeting followed the Hague Summit, where the Alliance set new objectives based on a realistic assessment of the current security environment. Defense Minister Pirro Vengu attended the meeting.
From Brussels, Vengu noted that the Alliance established new objectives based on a realistic assessment of the global security environment.
He said the discussions focused on NATO’s operational adaptation, faster decision-making, and a more balanced distribution of security responsibilities among allies.
Vengu added that the decision to deploy the Arctic Sentry operation around Greenland confirmed that Euro-Atlantic security is indivisible, from the strategic north to the Mediterranean.
He stressed that strengthening NATO’s position in the southeastern flank remains essential. He noted that Albania understood its responsibilities and translated them into concrete security investments for the country and the wider region.
The Brussels meeting is expected to further define priorities set in The Hague. Challenges in the Euro-Atlantic security space remain complex and dynamic. Support for Ukraine will again form a key discussion point, alongside strengthening defense, implementing commitments to increase spending, and attention to the Alliance’s eastern flank.
