Kosovo-Albania Theatre Showcase 2024 Brings Compelling Performances to Tirana

The Kosovo-Albania Theatre Showcase 2024 captivated audiences in Tirana with a lineup of engaging performances. The Experimental National Theatre “Kujtim Spahivogli” opened the event with The Whites, a production by Qendra Multimedia from Prishtina, followed by The Niche of Shame, staged at “ArTurbina” and produced by the Kosovo National Theatre.
The Whites is a social satire that examines the intersecting lives of an aging liberal, a young progressive, and a populist, portrayed by actors Shpëtim Selmani, Verona Koxha, and Bujar Ahmeti. The evening continued with The Niche of Shame, a dramatic adaptation of Ismail Kadare’s celebrated work, directed by Kushtrim Koliqi and dramatized by Doruntina Basha. The ensemble cast included Adrian Morina, Armend Smajli, Ylber Bardhi, Gresa Pallaska, and several other prominent actors who delivered a memorable performance. Originally published in 1978 as part of Kadare’s The Three-Arched Bridge, The Niche of Shame is a compelling exploration of historical power and societal structures.
Organized in collaboration with the Albanian National Theatre, the Experimental National Theatre “Kujtim Spahivogli,” and the M.A.M Center, the showcase represents the largest theatrical event in the region. Running from October 29 to November 2, it marks a significant cultural moment, bringing some of the most impactful works from Kosovo and Albania to Tirana’s stages.
