The largest Albanian dictionary will be ready in November, featuring approximately 120,000 words. Initially, it will be available online, with a printed version expected in 2025.

“This dictionary has been submitted and will require minor technical modifications. It will first be opened in academic circles for feedback, corrections, or ideas. Given the extensive number of pages, it could span up to three volumes,” explains Prof. Dr. Shezai Rrokaj.

The new dictionary aims to include words from all Albanian regions, according to Rrokaj, who serves as the deputy chief editor in this project.

“The goal is to build on existing dictionaries from the Academy of Sciences, specifically those from 1980, 1984, 2002, 2006, and 2020, while covering a wide area that appropriately reflects the Albanian linguistic space within ethnic territories,” says Rrokaj.

This new Albanian dictionary is a collaborative effort between the Academy of Sciences of Albania, the Academy of Sciences of Kosovo, and linguists from North Macedonia.
