As 63rd Song Festival on Albanian Radio and Television (RTSH) nears, celebrated musicians who have left a lasting impact on Albanian music are sharing their insights with the new generation of singers set to grace the festival stage.

Robert Radoja and Zhani Ciko, two seasoned musicians who have participated in many festivals and now serve on the advisory board for Fest 63, stress that while musical innovation is essential, it should not eclipse the traditional elements of Albanian light music.

“It all begins with the words, with the lyrics. Then the music breathes life into it, and finally, the singer brings it to fruition. We have turned this upside down, putting the singer first and the lyrics last. It’s not ideal. The insight of a poet is more forward-thinking and encompassing,” Radoja commented.

“There should be a modern touch, a fresh perspective, but it also needs to pull along the traditions that have shaped it. This balance is vital, and RTSH is well-positioned to achieve it,” Ciko added.

With the countdown underway, Fest 63 is set to bring a warm wave of song and talent to December’s chilly days, blending new voices with the rich heritage of Albanian music.
