Begaj: The month of Ramadan — a time for reflection and greater responsibility in public life

President Bajram Begaj attended the first iftar of the holy month of Ramadan, hosted in Tirana by the Albanian Muslim Community.
In his opening remarks, the President shared meaningful messages about family, society, and public life.
Referring to the essence of fasting, he emphasized that Ramadan goes beyond abstaining from food and drink. “Fasting without honesty, justice, and self-restraint in words and deeds becomes only a ritual form without substance,” Begaj stated.
He also highlighted the importance of solidarity with those in need. He expressed hope that this month of reflection would inspire people to reconnect with their spiritual core, strengthen family bonds, and deepen their sense of responsibility toward society.
The President urged greater efforts to translate the harmony of iftar gatherings into integrity and accountability in daily life. “At a time when our world faces tension and division, Ramadan invites us to lower our voices, listen to our conscience, and find inner peace,” he added.
Begaj stressed that Albania needs this spirit—more compassion, integrity, and sincere care for others.
“Iftar is a moment of unity,” he said. “This table reminds us that no Albanian should feel alone, especially those facing economic hardship, social insecurity, or health challenges. Our country is blessed with the precious value of religious brotherhood, a heritage we must protect. During this holy month, let us turn harmony into greater public responsibility and honesty in our everyday relationships.”
