University of Tirana Hosts a Poetry Evening Dedicated to Albanian Literary Icon, At Gjergj Fishta

The Center for Openness and Dialogue, in collaboration with the Drama Club of the Faculty of History and Philology at the University of Tirana, hosted the poetic evening “With Their Own Language, Long Live Albania,” dedicated to At Gjergj Fishta, one of the most prominent representatives of national culture and literature, an anti-conformist publicist, patriot, and cleric with rare spiritual and intellectual values.

The evening was accompanied by the sounds of the “VOX IUVENUM” choir, directed by maestro Harlen Nikolli, and performances by members of the Drama Club. Among the attendees were notable figures such as Mark Marku, Persida Asllani, Father Flavio Cavallini, Kastriot Gjika, Erenestina Gjergji Halili, Acad. Gjovalin Shkurtaj, Kristaq Jorgo, Albi Lushi, baritone Anduel Kovaçi, Kozeta Hoxha, along with many scholars of Fishta’s work and students from the Department of Language and Literature.

At Gjergj Fishta is considered the most significant and powerful figure in Albanian literature of the first half of the 20th century, who more than any other writer gave artistic expression to the searching spirit of Albania’s new sovereign state.
