St. Friday Church in Çeta, Kavaja, a rare mix of Gothic and Romanesque styles

TIRANA, February 23 – St. Friday Church in Kavaja is one of the oldest churches in Central Albania. It is also a rare example of the combination of Gothic and Romanesque styles.
Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports Blendi Gonxhja shared online images of the church. The church has survived through time and contains frescoes with significant historical and artistic value.
The church stands in the village of Çeta, a few kilometers from Kavaja. It was built in the 13th century on a hill in the middle of an olive grove. People also call it the Church of Çeta or the Church of St. Parascheva.
The building consists of a nave and an apse. The interior features frescoes that remain in relatively good condition, mainly in the upper sections.
The murals cover the entire interior space of the church. Experts believe they were created in several phases by different painters.
