Minister Malaj visits Poland, discusses development bank and stronger economic ties

Finance Minister Petrit Malaj is in Poland today, accompanied by Minister of Economy and Innovation Delina Ibrahimaj, for an official visit.
During the visit, Minister Malaj met with Polish Finance and Economy Minister Andrzej Domański. They discussed the progress of economic cooperation between Albania and Poland. Both ministers reaffirmed their shared interest in deepening bilateral relations, especially in the context of Albania’s European Union integration process.
They noted that both countries face similar challenges and goals—strengthening public finances, boosting competitiveness, and improving the business climate.
The meeting also offered a valuable opportunity to exchange concrete experiences on fiscal reforms, investment promotion, and macroeconomic stability. The ministers agreed to expand institutional cooperation between the two finance ministries.
Minister Malaj stressed that closer ties with Poland mark an important step toward increasing trade exchanges and building a long-term partnership for sustainable development.
Later, Minister Malaj held a productive meeting with the Board of Directors of Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (BGK). The bank’s experience serves as a key model for countries seeking to strengthen their national development instruments.
In this framework, Albania has taken a strategic step by establishing the Albanian Development Bank—a crucial tool to support priority economic sectors, ease access to finance, and encourage long-term investments.
The discussion focused on governance models, financial instruments, and best practices, as well as practical ways to deepen inter-institutional cooperation.
Strengthening partnerships with successful institutions like BGK represents a major milestone toward consolidating the Albanian Development Bank and building a stronger financial ecosystem that drives the country’s economic growth.
