Vengu: Albania and Hungary to exchange defense attachés within the year

Defense Minister Pirro Vengu is paying an official visit to Hungary at the invitation of his counterpart, Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky. During the visit, the two ministers held a bilateral meeting.

Minister Vengu emphasized that Hungary is a strong NATO ally, a steadfast supporter of Albania’s EU integration, and a key contributor to stability and security in Southeast Europe.

Both sides agreed to deepen cooperation in defense industry, innovation, and military education.

As part of this commitment, by 2026, Albania and Hungary will exchange defense attachés. This concrete step will strengthen strategic coordination, build mutual trust, and enhance interoperability between their armed forces.

Bilateral cooperation is entering a new and more ambitious phase. Albania aims to benefit from Hungary’s experience in modernizing defense capacities and the military industry. The partnership will also expand to Air Force training, investing in readiness, professionalism, and long-term security.

This growing partnership stands as a model of practical cooperation that builds real capabilities and reinforces collective security, fully aligned with Euro-Atlantic commitments and Albania’s path toward EU membership.
