Albania and Poland sign social security agreement to protect citizens abroad

A high-level delegation from Albania held an official meeting with representatives of the Polish Ministry of Finance. The discussions focused on strengthening economic cooperation, increasing investments, and finalizing key bilateral agreements.

The Albanian delegation, led by Minister of Economy and Innovation Delina Ibrahimaj and Finance Minister Petrit Malaj, met with Polish Finance Minister Andrzej Domanski and other senior officials of the Polish government.

Minister of Economy and Innovation, Delina Ibrahimaj, signed the Social Security Agreement between the Republic of Albania and the Republic of Poland. This marks an important step in strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

The agreement ensures recognition and totalization of insurance periods for Albanian and Polish citizens who have lived or worked in either country. It also guarantees the right to receive old-age pensions according to the legal retirement age. Moreover, it protects citizens from losing rights when moving between the two states.

Minister Ibrahimaj stated, “The agreement aims to provide legal certainty and social protection for citizens. It ensures equal treatment and respects acquired rights in the social security systems of both countries.”

She added that the agreement represents a concrete step in strengthening relations between Albania and Poland. It also marks significant progress in Albania’s European integration path. The agreement aligns with European Union standards for coordinating social security systems.

Signing this agreement confirms the Albanian government’s commitment to social protection for its citizens abroad. It also expands the network of bilateral agreements to serve their interests.

Currently, Albania implements 17 bilateral agreements. Five agreements are already approved, while three more are under negotiation or preparation. This demonstrates the government’s ongoing commitment to extending social protection coverage for its citizens abroad and aligning social security coordination with EU standards.
