In commemoration of the first anniversary of Milan Kundera’s passing and within the framework of the October of Books, the National Library of Albania, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Tirana and the French Embassy in Tirana, organized the cultural event “In Memoriam Milan Kundera 1929-2023.”

In honor of this complex figure, whose pen reshaped 20th-century literature, the event featured lectures by the translators of Kundera’s works: Anna Kareninová, the Czech translator, and Saverina Pasho, the Albanian translator. Through their personal experiences in translating Kundera’s oeuvre, they provided a professional analysis of his work and offered insights into how the writer, who introduced Eastern Europe to the West, “spoke Albanian.”

On the occasion of this event, the National Library also opened the exhibition “Kundera in the Collections of the National Library of Albania.”

The event was also attended by the Director of the National Library of Albania, Piro Misha, and included greetings from Pavel Vacek, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Albania, and Samuel Richard, First Consul at the French Embassy in Tirana.
