National Library holds 3,300 rare Oriental books and manuscripts

TIRANA, March 12 – The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports highlighted the Oriental Reading Room at the “Sotir Kolea” Center of the National Library of Albania during the month of Ramadan.
The center preserves a collection of around 3,300 rare books and manuscripts in Persian, Ottoman, Arabic, and Turkish. The materials reflect a long cultural, religious, and intellectual tradition across centuries.
Meanwhile, the ministry invited readers and researchers to visit the Oriental Reading Room and explore the collection. Among the items is a handwritten Quran in Arabic with calligraphy dating to 1328 according to the Rumi calendar.
The “Sotir Kolea” Center provides a quiet space for reading, study, and research. The library organizes literature by language, including German, Italian, Oriental languages, Ancient Greek, and Latin. Staff members assist visitors in locating materials and supporting research work.
