President Begaj urges media to guide public toward truth

TIRANA, March 18 – Albanian President Bajram Begaj told journalists last evening that media should do more than reflect events. He said it must act as a compass, guiding the public toward verified information.
Speaking at a dinner with journalists and media staff, Begaj praised their dedication and sacrifices. “Journalism at its peak is a form of ‘fasting of the word,’” he said. “It means not saying everything you hear, but only what is true and useful. Say only what you know and verify it before sharing.”
He stressed the growing responsibility of media in today’s fast-moving information environment. “When bad news spreads quickly and every phone can act as a newsroom, this guidance becomes even more important,” Begaj said. He added that words carry influence. They can build trust or create division, reveal truth or drown it in noise.
Begaj concluded by highlighting the role of truth in society. “Tonight, we are not just officials or journalists. We share hopes and values for a fairer, more honest society. A society with less toxic energy, more good deeds, and a better, happier, and more prosperous Albania,” he said.
