The Animated Film Festival “Anifest” features selected films for children

The 15th edition of the Children’s Animated Film Festival “Anifest” was inaugurated in the city of Gjirokastër.

The festival selected around 80 films from a collection of over 1,000 entries, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of animated film in Albania, with 40 of the films nominated for awards.

Artan Maku, the festival’s painter and director, emphasized that the event aims to educate children. “Our goal is children’s education. This year, we also celebrate the 50th anniversary of animated film. The animation studio within the former television started in 1974. The competitive films went through a rigorous selection process. From 1,070 films, the best were chosen, covering various themes, including humor and family topics. With this festival, we recognize both the audience and the creators,” Maku stated.

“Anifest” primarily showcased short films with a wide range of themes.

Marinela Ndria, director of the Central State Film Archive, described this event as one of the few festivals held in Albania. “This is a golden time. For the 50th anniversary of ‘Anifest,’ we have introduced a session dedicated to classic animated films, featuring over 50 films shown continuously in honor of classic animation,” she noted.
