Hoxha: No EU integration block, Greece is a key supporter

Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ferit Hoxha said Albania’s EU accession continues normally. No member state blocks progress.

In an interview with Euronews Albania, Hoxha said the process is complex and demanding. Member states ask questions, but this does not block Albania. The country fills 92 gaps to open negotiation chapters under the new methodology.

Hoxha said, “The process has not slowed. The European Commission recognizes our progress. Albania stays on the right, irreversible path.”

He said member states will keep verifying progress. “Nothing in the EU is easy. Albania faces challenges successfully,” he added.

Hoxha praised Greece as a key supporter. After Athens meetings with Greek officials, both sides agreed to advance and resolve open issues. “Greece shows goodwill. No chapter opens without Greece. We agree to make progress together,” he said.

He announced an upcoming meeting with the Greek Minister. They will resolve remaining issues and ensure no obstacles block Albania’s EU path. Greece’s 2027 EU presidency makes cooperation crucial to complete negotiations.

Hoxha said both countries want to move forward. “Greece supports us. It is one of Albania’s main allies in the negotiations,” he said.

Hoxha: Excellent ties with Kosovo, focus on Albanians in Preshevë

Hoxha said Albania and Kosovo maintain excellent relations. They cooperate closely in all fields. He called Kosovo a functioning democracy and promised full support.

He said the Diaspora Summit in Tirana will strengthen links with Albanians abroad, including Kosovo.

Hoxha said Albania monitors the rights of Albanians in the Preshevë Valley. During its UN Security Council term, Albania demanded respect for these rights. They must match the rights of all citizens.

He said Albania seeks a general consulate in the region to increase diplomatic presence and address community concerns.

Hoxha announced a new state agency to run projects abroad. The agency will support Albanian communities worldwide, first focusing on Preshevë. Albania wants to move from a project recipient to a contributor, offering concrete support to Albanians in the region and beyond.
