Gonxhja Unveils Plans for Modern National Library

Minister of Economy, Culture, and Innovation Blendi Gonxhja announced plans for a new National Library near the Guard in Tirana during a hearing with the Commission for Education and Public Information.
Gonxhja highlighted the critical condition of the current National Library, emphasizing that the institution, which holds great significance, is facing serious safety concerns regarding its collections and inventory due to inadequate storage conditions. He stated that the government is collaborating with the Municipality of Tirana and the asset owner on a creative economic solution to expand the library’s space and address its long-standing challenges.
He further clarified that the old library would not be demolished but would instead serve a ceremonial and museum role in the city center, near Skanderbeg Square.
Additionally, plans are being considered to conceptualize the premises of the Palace of Culture, where the library is located, to keep the National Library too, but in a more ceremonial context. Gonxhja explained that the new National Library will cater to diverse age groups and needs, housed in a modern facility driven by a forward-thinking economic strategy.
