Balkan lynx photographed again in Shebenik National Park

TIRANA, April 10 – Staff of the Protected Areas Administration in Elbasan photographed the Balkan lynx again in Shebenik National Park. The Balkan lynx (Lynx lynx balcanicus) appeared during recent monitoring operations. The sighting adds new evidence of the species’ presence in the park. It also confirms continued activity in its natural habitat across forest zones.
The National Agency for Protected Areas said teams used camera traps and field tracking methods. Specialists also carried out continuous on-site observations. These tools helped staff identify animal traces and confirm the lynx’s presence. The monitoring work enabled clear documentation of the species inside protected forest areas. The agency stressed the importance of long-term observation programs.
Field teams combined several methods during the monitoring process. They installed camera traps in selected strategic locations. They also tracked footprints and other field signs across different zones. These actions helped researchers build a clearer picture of lynx movement patterns. The collected data strengthens ongoing conservation and protection efforts in the region.
The new recording shows the Balkan lynx continues to use habitats inside Shebenik National Park. Conservation measures help maintain suitable environmental conditions for the species. Authorities continue to expand monitoring and protection activities in key areas. The Balkan lynx remains one of the rarest mammals in the region. Its continued presence highlights the importance of sustained conservation work.
