Dritëro Agolli’s poems will be translated into five languages

At the premises of the Diaspora Publishing Center, a meeting was held between translators and literary editors (professors from the Faculty of Foreign Languages at the University of Tirana) involved in the project of translating Dritëro Agolli’s poems into five languages.
The participating translators, who spent 52 days at the “Fan Noli” residency of the Diaspora Publishing Center, include: Rigels Halili from Poland, Eleana Zhako from Belgium, Griselda Doka from Italy, Loreta Shillcock from Germany, and Evelyne Noygues from France.
During this period, the translators in residence, in collaboration with the literary editors, will finalize the project of translating the poetry collection of the renowned writer Dritëro Agolli into five languages.
The translators’ residency project is a winner of the “Culture Moves Europe” program, financed by the European Union and implemented by the Goethe Institute.
Regarding the challenges of translating Agolli’s poetry, particular emphasis was placed on the difficulty of maintaining a balance between the simplicity of the language and the complexity of the content, conveying the specific Albanian context to a foreign reader, preserving the nuances of humor and irony, as well as the rhythm and rhyme, and ensuring the cultural references, elements of folklore, and symbolic meanings embedded in Albanian tradition are properly conveyed.
Present at this meeting were the translators: Manjola Nasi, Evelyne Noygues, Loreta Shillcock, Griselda Doka, and the editors: Rudina Xhillari, Mirela Papa, Marsela Likaj, and Lorena Dedja.
