Zogaj along Lake Shkodër showcases natural beauty and cultural heritage

TIRANA, April 30 – The village of Zogaj, located 3–4 kilometres beyond Shiroka along Lake Shkodër, stands out for fishing, medicinal plants, untouched nature, and traditional loom weaving. Local artisans continue to preserve handmade crafts and maintain long-standing traditions.

The village in northwestern Albania reflects the identity, colours, and rural experience of the country. It attracts both local visitors and foreign tourists with its natural and cultural offer.

Prime Minister Edi Rama shared images of Zogaj on social media. He described them as “fragments of an Albania that works with dedication, welcomes with tradition, and develops in harmony between natural beauty, heritage, and the vision for a European future.”

The images show people of different ages enjoying nature, water activities, traditional food, fishing scenes, and women working on looms. The village borders Lake Shkodër to the north, Mount Tarabosh to the south, the Buna River to the east, and the border with Montenegro to the west.

Zogaj has a long fishing tradition. Together with Shiroka, it ranks among the most attractive areas in northern Albania. The region also produces traditional carpets, a craft preserved by local women and increasingly valued by visitors.
