Special Court opens new premises, Justice Minister Gogu links justice performance with European Union standards

TIRANA, May 11 – The Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime (GJKKO) inaugurated its renovated premises, including 4 courtrooms, 2 court halls and 16 judges’ offices. Minister of Justice Toni Gogu attended the ceremony and linked the investment to judicial reform and Albania’s negotiations with the European Union under Chapter 23.

Gogu said that Europe does not assess institutions only on their formal existence. He added that the European Union evaluates how institutions function on a daily basis, including procedural efficiency, judicial administration, legal certainty and public trust.

Meanwhile, he stressed that court infrastructure directly affects the quality of justice. He underlined that a courtroom ensures impartiality, security, procedural dignity and the authority of law.

Gogu also addressed security measures in courts handling organized crime cases. He said such measures must remain proportionate and aligned with European human rights standards.

At the same time, the minister said that the justice reform has entered a phase of institutional consolidation. He identified efficiency, professionalism and public credibility as the main challenges of the system.
