OkDiario: From southern coastline to museum cities, Albania gains ground on Europe’s tourism map

TIRANA, June 2 – Spanish media outlet “OkDiario” reported that Albania is emerging as one of the most attractive summer destinations in Europe. The article said the country is gaining ground as traditional Mediterranean destinations face overcrowding and rising prices.
Meanwhile, international media have ranked Albania among the most popular current destinations. They highlighted its beaches, cultural heritage, unspoiled nature and lower costs compared with Greece, Spain and Italy. The report noted that Albania was once one of Europe’s most isolated countries. It said this characteristic now works as a tourism advantage.
OkDiario said the country offers a long and diverse coastline, historical heritage and relatively low prices. It added that areas once known only to adventurous travellers are now becoming increasingly popular. At the same time, it said growing popularity could bring future challenges similar to other major European tourist destinations.
The article highlighted southern beaches such as Ksamil, often compared to Greek islands due to their clear waters. It said these areas still offer lower crowding and more affordable prices. In addition, it noted similarities between parts of the Albanian coast and Croatia, while lifestyle and gastronomy recall southern Italy.
OkDiario said Albania stands out for its preserved authenticity. It said destinations such as Himara and Borshi are also gaining attention. The report added that inland sites like Berat, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the Blue Eye natural spring further strengthen Albania’s tourism appeal.
It concluded that the combination of coastline, nature, history and authenticity is turning Albania into one of Europe’s fastest-growing tourist destinations.
