Foreign Minister Ferit Hoxha: European Union accession path enters decisive phase

TIRANA, June 10 – Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ferit Hoxha attends the Ministerial Meeting of the South-East European Cooperation Process in Sofia. The process carries the acronym SEECP.

On X, Hoxha said the initiative evolved from a sincere aspiration into a stable and impactful project over time. SEECP now serves as the main regional political forum, promoting dialogue and strengthening good neighbourly relations.

Regional responsibility, mutual respect, and a shared vision support stability, prosperity, and integration, he said. In addition, he underlined economic cooperation and regional integration as key priorities.

The Berlin Process, the Growth Plan, the Regional Common Market, and connectivity projects, including Corridor VIII, formed part of his reference. These frameworks provide concrete opportunities for deeper integration and improved competitiveness.

Albania’s European Union accession path has entered its most dynamic and decisive phase. The target remains completion of accession negotiations by 2027 and full membership by 2030, he said.

Earlier remarks described enlargement as a merit-based process requiring credibility and sustainability for both sides. Leaders of the European Union and Western Balkans reaffirmed that approach in Tivat, agreeing on renewed political momentum and a clearer strategic vision.

At the same time, Hoxha reaffirmed Albania’s commitment to reforms and regional cooperation. Progress continues, although challenges remain. He warned that unaddressed gaps could slow development and create space for external influence not aligned with European aspirations.
