The Chairman of the Academy of Sciences, Skënder Gjinushi, awarded the “Honorary of the Academy” to the heirs of the renowned dam designers, Egon Gjadri and Enver Preza.

The award ceremony took place during the opening session of the conference on higher quality and safety standards of dams, organized by the Albanian Committee of Large and Small Dams, in the presence of the President of the International Committee on Dams.

The motivation for Egon Gjadri states: Co-designer of the water energy utilization scheme in the Drin River basin; with original technical and scientific contributions to the design of tunnels for major hydrotechnical works and other railway and road constructions; and for organizing and professionally leading successful teams in the design of our country’s largest dams, as a successful leader in the creative implementation of science in design.

While the motivation for Enver Preza reads: For outstanding technical and scientific merits in the field of designing deep foundations beneath large dams, a key element among the most important in the large hydrotechnical works built in the Drin River cascade; who solved some of the most complex problems in designing dam foundations and tunnels; a personality that even after many decades is difficult to surpass.
