Saint George in Shishtavec: Pagan Festival Celebrating the Arrival of Spring

May 6 marks the day of Shëngjergj /Saint George/, a festival celebrated with grandeur in the Gora area of Kukës. In the village of Shishtavec, it was celebrated amidst songs, dances, traditional costumes, which gathered hundreds of residents from this administrative unit and beyond.
On this festive day, horse races were also held.
Emigrants, who chose to celebrate together in the village of their birth, were also present at this festival, known otherwise as the “Festival of Flowers.”
