The Speaker of the Parliament, Lindita Nikolla, has commemorated today the birth anniversary of the National Hero, George Kastrioti Skanderbeg.

Through a message on social media, Nikolla emphasizes that Skanderbeg is a myth and part of European consciousness.

” George Kastrioti Skanderbeg, our national hero, was born on May 6th, 1405. Under his leadership, our homeland became, for about a quarter of a century, a bulwark of freedom and European civilization. As a defender of the old continent, George Kastrioti Skanderbeg became a European myth, part of European consciousness, merciful, and a factor of European identity for Albanians. Therefore, today’s Albania and its European future have their roots in the history of European Albanians,” writes Nikolla.

Today marks 619 years since the birth of our national hero, George Kastrioti Skanderbeg, one of the greatest generals of his time. Skanderbeg is considered one of the most prominent figures in Albanian history and the founder of the medieval Albanian state.
