Bay-leaf Sunday, Orthodox believers celebrate the entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem

In the “Resurrection of Christ” Cathedral in Korça, the day of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem was celebrated this Sunday, and this is known as the Bay-leaf Day.

The name is ‘the translation’ of palm leaves, which comes from the reception that the believers made of their Lord. Last Sunday’s Holy Mass was held by the Metropolitan of Korça, His Grace Monsignor Joani.

After the Divine Liturgy, believers took bay leaves with them, for more health in their families.

“Today is Bay-leaf Day, we buy flowers to bring prosperity and we expect a happy Easter,” said a citizen.

Before the celebration of Easter, Orthodox believers will celebrate Holy Thursday, which is the Last Supper of Christ, then the Black Friday and Resurrection at dawn next Sunday.
