Albania extends border police services amid summer travel increase

TIRANA, July 23 – The Korça Regional Directorate for Border and Migration has extended services at all 4 southeastern border crossing points to manage increased traffic during the tourist season.
The highest movement levels have been recorded at Kapshtica and Qafë-Thana. During the summer period, these crossings register up to 20,000 daily entries and exits by Albanian and foreign citizens. Meanwhile, Border Police units have increased operational counters and deployed additional officers to speed up checks and reduce waiting times.
The measures follow recent queues at the two crossings. During peak hours, travellers waited up to 2 hours to cross the border. At Kapshtica, delays mainly resulted from more detailed checks by Greek authorities. At Qafë-Thana, longer waiting times were linked to reduced staffing on the North Macedonian side during the tourist season.
Border Police said the additional measures will remain in place throughout the summer. The authorities aim to ensure faster, smoother and safer movement for all travellers.
